Into the Ether
Hiking is a daily ritual of my life. As a kid my family talked more when we hiked, and that works well with our kids, too. Each of us becomes less important than nature. We are able to transcend our humdrum lives when we hike, and communicate with each other well. In painting this scene, with two adolescents, I bring up memories of these countless moments with family members, many of whom are no longer on this earth. It is both a delightful and sad memory.
