Roses and Stone
As I walked along cobblestone streets in Turckheim, France, I was captivated by the cheerful, bright colored homes. I was especially drawn to this one with red rose blossoms spilling from the window boxes. I took photos of several scenes like this to paint for a series in my studio. All the hours of painting en plein air over the years helps me interpret the colors and focal points I recall when on site. I chose to lead the viewer to the red roses spilling out the window. I love the contrast of their beauty against the rustic textured stone.
