Early Spring, Via della Torre del Gallo, Florence
I painted this on location on the outskirts of Florence in Italy. Overall it took about 2 hours to complete in one session, working in oils.
This painting was about trying to capture the mood of early spring in the Tuscan countryside. The olive trees had just been pruned and there was a smell of wild garlic in the air when I arrived there! I really loved the colour harmony between the fresh spring greens in the foreground and the blues of the distant mountains.
