Easy Going at the Keeper's Cottage
This was painted en Plein air in Port Isabel, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, with oil paints on a linen Centurion Deluxe canvas board. Despite being February, the temperatures were scorching hot in South Texas. The set up was near the historic Port Isabel lighthouse, but with a view toward the lighthouse keeper's cottage in the background and a tourist sitting on a bench out in the sun on the square. This painting came together in one session, a la prima, after laying down a tonal underpainting with Gamlin's asphaltum and then laying in color loosely and expressively.
