I started "When She Sleeps" during the fall before there was snow on the ground and worked on it, from observation, on most sunny days while my toddler napped. Sometimes I had two solid hours to paint and sometimes I'd get set up and my child would decide it was time to play. It wasn't consistent work but I got to watch the season change out the window from fall to late winter. I was interested in the story that could come from the contrasting subject matter from nature to industry and development to the innocence of a child.
