Little antique store
This plein air painting is of a small antique store in Corona, California. There were many elements which drew me to this scene. The old tin roof and the weathered wooden building were in stark contrast to the cheerful red umbrella. The gnarled trunk of the pepper tree, and the feathery leaves were very important to the scene as they cast a beautiful dappled shade in the foreground. I found the scene so satisfying to paint as it had a mixture of opposites and also a mixture of man made and natural objects. I had seen this view so many times but still found it interesting and challenging to do it justice.
